Carry Out Regular Vehicle Maintenance During Wet Weather

This summer has been one of the wettest on record as of yet and it has unfortunately led to a number of road traffic accidents. The wetter conditions can be difficult to drive in and can make driving on the roads unsafe, especially if you live in one of the many areas that have been affected by flooding. If there have been flood warnings in your area you should do your best to stay indoors until the adverse weather conditions have passed.
However, for those living in areas where there has simply been an increased level of rainfall with no flood warnings, you should be able to continue your routine out and about on the roads. There will be a number of checks and maintenance tasks that you should carry out on your vehicle though, just to make sure it will be safe to drive during the wet weather.
Many people assume that these kinds of checks only need to be carried out when it is snowy or icy, but the fact is that wet weather can be just as dangerous. One of the most important parts of the vehicle that drivers will need to check is the tyres, as they will need to have an appropriate tyre depth to ensure they can cope with the wetter weather.
It is also important that all drivers ensure their wiper blades are in perfect condition, as they are likely to be used a considerable amount while there is an increased amount of rainfall in the UK. If your wiper blades were to break or be ineffective in a rainstorm you would lose visibility of the road ahead of you and so could endanger your own life as well as those of the other drivers and pedestrians around you.
To check if your wiper blades are in prime condition you should take note of any tell-tale signs, such as lines appearing on your windscreen when using your wiper blades or if your wiper blades judder when in use. It may be that just your wiper blades need replacing, although the wiper arm may also need seeing to.
Making sure your wiper blades are clean is another important maintenance task that will need to be carried out - simply wipe the underside of the blades with a damp cloth to clear off any accumulated dirt and grime.
