Cash From Selling Loose Diamonds
When attempting to sell diamonds, there are factors that are used to decide its worth
. Known to many people at the 4 "C"s, the carat, clarity, color and cut determine the value of any diamond. Whether a business executive is making a large investment in diamonds or an individual is trying to sell loose diamonds, the four words are the determining factor in how much a diamond is worth.
Carat
In some terminology, the carat of a diamond simply means its size. A better description might include the heaviness of the diamond. A diamond's heaviness is measured in carats. The heavier a diamond is, the more rare the diamond. Being rare increases the value of the diamond. However, the diamond may be equal in heaviness to another diamond but have a much different value, due to the other factors of cut, clarity and color.
Clarity
Just as the name suggests, the clarity of the diamond refers to how unblemished the diamond is to the eye. Diamonds may have different numbers of weaknesses or defects. Clarity is measured by viewing the diamond under 10 power magnification. A diamond may be rated flawless, imperfect 3 or anything between those two ratings. There are some specific defects that can be found on diamonds. These types of weaknesses cause the light to be disrupted as it passes through the diamond. The higher the clarity of a diamond, the higher the value.
Color
As with clarity, the name of color suggests the meaning. The tint of a diamond determines the value of the diamond. The best choice for a diamond is no tint, at all. However, a scale is used to rate a diamond from having no tint or a white tint to a very light yellow. There is one exception in that a canary diamond is supposed to be yellow. Otherwise, the fewer tints a diamond has the more valuable that diamond will be.
Cut
At first glance, it may seem that the cut of a diamond would refer to its form. However, this is not exactly true. The cut of a diamond refers more to the proportions of the diamond. A diamond should be cut in a way that allows light to be reflected in the most flattering method. If a diamond is cut too shallow or too deep, light is allowed to escape and is not reflected back as it should be.
Determining The Value of Diamonds
The true value of a diamond is determined by combining all of the above factors. A diamond may be near perfect in one of the factors, yet still be not very highly valued, based on the other three factors. Most of the four factors are at least somewhat determined by opinion. Therefore, diamonds are rated by people who have had training and years of experience to conduct the ratings.
