Catalonia

Catalonia is an autonomous community in Spain

Catalonia is an autonomous community in Spain. It comprises of Lleida, Tarragona, Girona and Barcelona. The name of Catalonia was used for the first time in the eleventh century. The origin of this term is a subject to numerous discussions and disputes.

Barcelona is considered to be the capital of Catalonia. It is extremely beautiful city with outstanding architecture and interesting people. The citys architecture was enriched greatly by Antoni Gaudi famous Catal architect. The majority of his creations are included into the UNESCO World Heritage List. There is no Barcelona without his masterpieces. Among the most famous ones are of course Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Casa de Milla and many others. Your visit to Barcelona will not be complete without admiring Gaudis masterpieces. Park Guell is a great place to spend the day enjoying the nature, architecture and panorama of Barcelona. The admission to the park is free. The most popular place is the bench decorated with sea motives. Sagrada Familia has greatly contributed to the whole appearance of the city. The unfortunate fact is that Gaudi died before he was able to finish it. He worked on this project for the last years of his life. Thanks to numerous sketches left after his death the other architects were able to get the idea of Sagrada Familia should look like when finished.

In Catalonia there are two official languages: Spanish and Catalan even though the education is on Catalan as well as TV programs. This community has rich traditions with different festivals and events. One of the most well-known festivals is Patum of Berga. It is celebrated annually between late May and late June, during the week of Corpus Christi. Bright parades and other festivities are an inevitable part of any Catalan city or town.

After visiting Catalonia wvwryone simply falls in love with it. I even know people who moved there after their first visit. If it happens to you turn to a property agent in Spain

Catalonia was one of the first territories in the country that forbid bullfighting. Catalonia made this decision in summer 2010. Even though bullfighting has always been an integral part of Spanish culture and traditions it was banned here. Bullfights are still held in some parts of Barcelona even though there are numerous protests against it. There are of course a lot of complaints about cruelty to animals poor bulls. But traditions are still traditions and a lot of money have been invested in the constructions of arenas for bullfighting, especially in Plaza de Torros de Las Ventas in Madrid.

Despite the ban bullfighting still remains one of the main attractions in Spain.
