Although the actual cause of stuttering is unknown there are some theories for the causes of stuttering. It can be because of genetics. It may be because stuttering runs in the family. Second is the learning theory. It states that children are usually not fluent wherein they try to talk fats, mumble the words or mispronounced some words, if a child is ridiculed for this then the child may develop anxiety thereby causing stuttering.
Third is that stuttering is cause by neurological differences in the brain of a stutterer and a those who are not, but take note stutterers are normal people, they are only recognized as stutterers when they speak. Stuttering is usually experienced in childhood and for some they overcome it as they reach adulthood, although there are some who have not overcome it.
Stuttering often occurs when a person is excited, stressed and nervous. Talking in front of many people tends to be a problem that is hard to be resolved, although stuttering can only be present when stutterers talk to other people and usually speak normally to themselves and when singing.
Knowing what causes stuttering can help in identifying key interventions as well as how to help them get rid of their problems. Based on the common incidence and occurrence of stuttering, it only occurs when a person feels nervous speaking in front of many people. It is a problem of relating to other people and connecting with them. It is a problem of self esteem and lack of confidence in oneself.
