The cause of panic attacks is simply being in a prolonged state of high anxiety
. Anxiety is defined as being fearful or apprehensive resulting from the anticipation of an imagined or real threat, event, or situation. Continue reading to learn how to overcome the anxiety that causes panic attacks.
Anxiety is one of the most common human emotions experienced by people during their lifetime. Everyone deals with anxiety differently. Those that are not crippled by anxiety attacks can face the anxiety and move on from it. Suffers are often times crippled by panic attacks and every decision they make revolves around the fear of having a panic attack.
As you are aware, for most people who have never experienced a panic attack, or extreme anxiety, they simply fail to realize the terrifying nature of the experience for sufferers. Sufferers may experience dizziness, blurred vision, tingling and feelings of breathlessness and a whole host of other physiological manifestations.
When these sensations occur and people do not understand why, they may feel as though they have contracted an illness or serious mental condition. The threat of losing complete control seems very real and naturally very terrifying.
Fight or fight
Anxiety is a built in mechanism in most humans that is supposed to protect us from danger, therefore when someone experiences anxiety, the first impulse is either to flee or to fight in the midst of the danger.
This may seem ironic for panic attack sufferers since you may feel that your anxiety is actually causing you great harm. You cannot have the full and rich life that you dream about because you are paralyzed by the fear of having panic attacks and you feel powerless.
Even in today's hectic world, anxiety is still a necessary mechanism for everyone. It comes in useful when you must respond to a real threat in life within a split second.
The good news for sufferers is that no matter whether the sufferer feels that they are going to die from the attack, the body will eventually override the fear or panic and assume a state of balance. I am certain that you have experienced this at one time or another with panic attacks that you have had in the past. You will usually have the panic attack but eventually, the attack will go away. It is important to note that it has never been reported that someone died from a panic attack.
One of the scary moments in the midst of an attack is that the sufferer begins to fear that they shall either suffocate or be smothered to death. One of the physiological effects of an anxiety attack is tightness in the chest and throat. Anxiety grows from the fear that your breathing itself would cease and you would be unable to recover. Is it possible for the attack to stop your breathing? Absolutely not!
An attack causes increased breathing which leads to a decrease in the blood supply to the head. This can produce variety of harmless though unpleasant reactions such as dizziness, blurred vision, confusion, sense of unreality, and hot flushes.
Why the "fight or flight" response is activated during a panic attack even when there is apparently nothing frightening
Upon examining the causes of panic attacks, it appears that suffers are simply afraid of the physiological sensations and manifestations that collectively convince the sufferer that they are going to die or have some other gloomy result.
These unexpected physiological sensations lead to the fear or panic that something is terribly wrong.
Although emotions may explain why these attacks happen, please note that eliminating the attacks does not necessarily involve an analysis of your psyche. In many cases, even if the psyche is analyzed and the root cause of the panic attack is discovered, it still does not help the sufferer overcome anxiety attacks since a habit has been formed and this habit will need to be broken.
