Ce Marking Is A Prerequisite To Sail On European Waters

To reduce the technical barriers of trading and provide common obligations, the concept of CE (Conformit Europene which means European Conformity) marking was introduced. The European Commission has introduced a group of conditions known as the European Union Directives, which will require the goods of certain categories to meet legal requirements of the European Community. The products that meet the directives will be labelled with a CE logo. This is the reason, why the process is called CE marking. The logo does not indicate the compliance to quality, but validate the legal requirements of the EU directives.

A CE-mark boat (ce-mrka bt) ensures that your product satisfy all legal requirements. If you are a manufacturer of recreational boats and want to export your product in the EU market to sell or want to run it on the EU waters for personal use, you should get a CE mark for it. If, you are entering the EU market or water territory, you must satisfy following requirements :

1.An exporter requires to have the details of the process that he followed to comply with the safety requirements. Each of the requirement has an international standard supporting it.

For example, if he acquires a CE-mark boat (ce-mrka bt), the vessel must be structurally strong enough to operate in the conditions that he has stated. ISO 12215 is an international standard supporting this requirement. So, he need to have a documentary proof showing that his product comply with this standard. This needs to be done for all the safety requirements using the applicable ISO standards. After this, the documents should be compiled together to form a technical construction file.

2.You need to have a boat manual for CE marking of boat (ce-mrkning av bt). All the documents of the boat along with a declaration of conformity are must. You may require to produce them to the custom officers, insurance companies, harbour authorities and surveyors, on demand.

3.A builder's plate with a clear CE mark must be placed on the vessel. The plate should carry other informations like the number of persons to be carried, maximum allowable power, additional weight allowed, and design category. The vessel must also carry a Hull Identification Number (HIN) showing the country code, an identification number, the year of build and model year.

You need to carry all these documents, because sometimes they require to be given to a Notified Body for their approval.
