Celebrate Durga Puja With Traditional Silk Sarees

The most important festival of people belonging to the eastern part of India

, especially West Bengal, Durga Puja is known for its grandeur. Durga Puja extends over 3-4 days and calls for much revelry and merriment. While during the morning men and women get dressed in ethnic Indian Clothing such as Sarees and Kurta Pyjamas and participate in various pujas and the offering of flowers to goddess Durga known as Pushpanjali, the evenings are the time for everyone to get together for some fun and merriment with friends and family.

Being a traditional festival, Sarees are most preferred by Indian women for Durga Puja. Be it a young girl in her teens or much older women, during Durga Puja everyone is spotted in beautiful Indian Sarees that are draped gracefully. Most of Bengali women usually choose the traditional white Saree with red borders for the morning rituals of Durga Puja and prefer to drape their Sarees in the traditional Bengali style of draping a Saree. Besides the handmade traditional Bengali Tant cotton Sarees, there is quite a demand for traditional Silk Sarees during Durga Puja as well. Silk Sarees evoke a majestic look that suits the magnificence of Durga Puja celebrations. Traditional Silk Sarees in rich shades of red, maroon, mustard yellow, teal, orange, etc are quite popular during Durga Puja. Silk Sarees for Durga Puja, however, do not feature overtly glamorous zari woven design as seen on Bridal or Wedding Silk Sarees but reveal woven pattern using resham or zari with a muted or a subtle sheen. This renders a subdued yet a classic appeal. Rather than pure Silk Sarees, during Durga Puja women prefer Art Silk Sarees, Silk Cotton Sarees, Crepe Silk Sarees, etc. featuring subtle zari woven pattern along the borders. These Silk Sarees are further enhanced with bold woven motifs or embroidered pattern using sequins, beads, zari and resham embroidered decorative pattern.
