Celebrating The Holidays With Decorative Flags

Easter and Thanksgiving are both festive family holidays

. Customs surrounding these two holidays often entail extended family coming together for a meal and an afternoon and evening of reminiscing and catching up. To keep the holiday festive and to build up the anticipation, families decorate their homes, inside and out, with traditional colors and holiday-related figures and characters. A beautiful addition to your outside dcor would be an Easter flag or a Thanksgiving flag, resplendent in the colors of the season.

Easter Flags

The traditional colors of Easter are pastel or bright yellows, greens, blues, and reds. All the colors of a basket of Easter eggs or a bouquet of hyacinths represent the promise of spring and the Easter holiday. Easter flags are available for those who celebrate Easter as a Christian holiday, and those who keep the holiday as a secular one.

For Christians, Easter is a sacred celebration of the resurrection of Christ. In keeping with this, flags may be hung, announcing, Christ has risen! or simply depicting an empty cross. The Easter cup, a lamb, and a sunrise are all Christian symbols that remind Christians to rejoice on this holiday. Even pictures of Christ are available to hang by the front door or in the garden, to honor this joyous day.

Easter is celebrated by many who are not keeping it as a Christian holiday. For those, or for Christians who wish to depict a more whimsical side of the holiday, Easter flags with Easter bunnies abound. There are flags with bunny faces, and flags with whole bunnies walking or hopping down the Bunny Trail. There are Easter Bunnies with Easter baskets, and Easter bunnies with eggs. Easter eggs offer the ideal subject for Easter flags because of their simple shape, which makes layering them easy, and because of their bright variety of colors.

Thanksgiving Flags

The colors of Thanksgiving are generally earthy, like the colors of fall vegetables and fall leaves. Burnt orange, brown and tan, dark reds and purples, and dark green, are all colors of the holiday. Thanksgiving flags are likely to be made with these colors. Families may hang a flag at the door or in the garden, reminding passers-by and visitors to Give thanks. or that they are Welcome. The harvest is another traditional representation of the holiday, with pumpkins, squash, Indian corn, and gourds, often in a cornucopia. The most common figure on Thanksgiving flags, however, is the turkey. This may be an animated, even silly, turkey, or a realistic airbrushed design printed on a flag. It may be an artistic rendition with stripes of colors appliques on the tail.

Families with children in the house, or who are young at heart, may choose Thanksgiving flags depicting a scene from A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving or Mickey Mouse or Tweety Bird in a pilgrim's hat.

Whatever the choice, the fall colors of the flag will blend beautifully with the fall leaves already on the ground, or still on the tree in your front yard. The flag will be a natural part of your dcor and an accurate representation of the personalities inside your home.
