Celebration of the Indian Independence Day

. In India, the fifteenth day of the august month is celebrated as the Independence Day for India. India got its independence in the year 1947. This was the day Mother India became free from the British rule.

History of Independence:

This day is celebrated to remember and owe thousands of great leaders who had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation. When the clock struck 12 at the mid night during 1947, India was declared as the Independent Nation. The first Prime Minister of free India was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. After a huge struggle by many leaders like Mahatma Gandhiji, Subhas Chandra Bose etc. This day was day which was expected by millions of the people in India. It was not only a day it was the dreams and hope of millions of Indians. Mahatma Gandhiji and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru worked hard to shape the country.

Celebrations in India:

August 15th every year is announced as the national holiday. During the Independence Day every year the national flag is hoisted at the capital of the country by the Prime Minister and the military parade is held at New Delhi. Then the displays of the latest weapons are also done. It is followed by the cultural programs, which displays the various traditions and culture of the country. The saffron, white and green color flag of India is hoisted through the country. It is hoisted in every Government office, schools, colleges and other important place. It is celebrated in schools and colleges in a great way where the children impersonate the national leaders and various sports and competitions are held during this day. Mostly all the Government office, school, colleges are declared as holidays. People through out the country distributes sweet and national flag to others. Various T.V channels play patriotic films and programme. This is one of the memorable day for the people of India.
