Challenges Can Never Wear This Woman Down

A female physician was able to attain her prized medical career that with detours

and odd parties but she did so in a roundabout route and as a tribute to an unswerving purpose. However, as we go back to high school, we see that she was not so single minded back then. Back as high school student in her hometown, she couldn't make up her mind for she wanted to pursue both medicine and languages. She therefore hedged her bets, doing languages, French and Spanish, English as well as all the sciences. A Spanish professor helped this lady, whose prowess is communication, make her final decision. The teacher said that you can be a doctor who speaks different languages, but you cannot do medicine on the side.

She endured purely science subject matter as her A-level subjects in the community college she went to. She was undeterred even after two years she found the results to be discouraging. She passed only in Chemistry as it was her favorite subject.

She entered the university to do Natural Sciences with the intention to transfer to medicine after her first year. Unfortunately, she did not perform to the expectations so she wasn't able to transfer but then she was thankful for having a great time. Her grades were B's instead of A's. With her growing admiration for the science of chemistry along with this reason, she became keen on finishing the course.

With her growing fondness toward chemistry, she decided to major in it along with food technology. She was in this field when she received her honors degree. She could not get a job after graduating. She didn't have a job for one year since she left the university. There were no jobs at all. Her search led her to the food industry. She'd ask why she got into this in the first place when faced with discouragement.

The sole person that could offer her a job was a man who dealt with drugs and decided to offer her huge pay after he saw how proficient she was in handling industrial kettles. She describes that instance to be so alluring with the amount of money offered but then she made it very clear that she was taught by her parents to never consider money to be everything so she did not take the offer. She continued applying in various medical schools while firmly holding on to her dreams of becoming a physician. With so much fear, she accepted the offer to teach as she wasn't receiving any word from medical school.

A year later, deciding that she needed to earn money to attend medical school when and if she were accepted, she left the classroom and went to a commercial bank as a trainee manager the next year. She recalled she looked at the pros and cons and spoke to people who she knew and the consensus was that in the end she would still be an employee if she stayed with the bank. Medicine offered her the option of having her own business and doing what she wanted.

Medical school welcomed her after two years. Year one traditionally is a mix of fun and learning. Immersing herself was something she did. Studying enough, she didn't have to be a bookworm or to miss out on parties. Only in her first year, she already bagged awards in community health as well as distinction in being among the top 10 in Physiology. She got closer to a lot of people and that is why she loved community medicine. You get to know how the lives of your patients went as you enter the homes. She called the program truly exceptional.

She states that cutting up corpses won't trigger any emotional losses inside her but perhaps just some feelings of disgust. But when it comes to Pathology, a new story comes in. For the whole 10 weeks, she would cry after they were asked to autopsy the recently dead. She was quick to feel the emotional loss of the deaths. She has great appreciation for pharmacology thanks to her background in chemistry. How chemicals worked in the body especially in curing diseases was something that mesmerized her. She often goes to the library now for some journals even if she didn't do this before. With her award in Pharmacology, everyone got surprised.

With five of her study buddies, she gained a party organizer reputation and shied away from being the bookworm she wanted to be. Doing excellently in the final exams, three of them even got honors. A member that belongs to her group brought home tons of medals including one which was an award in gynecology. Today we can truly say that our time was never wasted.
