What started as a thought in the mind of one of the great architects Le Corbusier
is now known internationally as one of the most planned and well archtectured cities. It is more commonly known as "The City Beautiful" more often among the teenagers. Chandigarh is located near the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas in Northwest India. It is on the border of two states i.e. Haryana and Punjab so it was turned into a Union Territory so that it could serve as a capitol to both the adjoining states. Chandigarh has a sub-tropical continental monsoon climate characterized by a seasonal rhythm: hot summers, slightly cold winters, unreliable rainfall and great variation in temperature. In winter, frost sometimes occurs during December and January. The city also receives occasional winter rains from the west.
The city clearly defines its border and marks the start of the city boundary with the most famous Open Hand Monument. As soon as one enters the city he/she realizes how well it is constructed and one would not even require a map to go to any part of the city. The administration plays a very important role in keeping the city clean and recently the city was declared the first smoke-free city.
The city is home to a lot of beautifully built tourist places like Rose Garden, Rock Garden etc. and the best attraction for not only people visiting but the people from the city is the most beautiful Sukhna Lake. Not only this, the city given special importance to providing the best educational facilities with the Punjab University situated in the centre of the city. Chandigarh has a well developed market and banking infrastructure. Nearly all the major banks in the country have registered their presence in Chandigarh. Most banks with a pan India presence have their zonal/regional offices present in Chandigarh. The Bank Square in Sector 17 in Chandigarh has a large presence of such offices all in one section of the commercial sector.
The recently created Chandigarh IT Park is an attempt by the city to break into the IT world and prove its potential. It is home to a few multinational companies like Quark, Dell, Infosys, DLF etc. as well. To conclude, the City
