Chatswood is a town situated in North Shore in Sydney in the state of New South Wales
. Chatswood is also a well known head quarter of the metropolis of Willoughby local government region.
It was after Charlotte Hartnett, wife of then Mayor of Willoughby, Richard Hartnett (a pioneer of the district) and the original "wooded" nature of the area that Chatswood got its name. 1876 marked the beginning of residential settlement in chatswood which further grew with the installation of the North Shore railway line in 1890. Opening of the Harbour Bridge in 1932 added more people to the resident's lists of the region.
The suburb derived its name from her nick name Chattie shortened from Chattie's Wood to Chatswood. It is the third largest CBD after Sydney and offers significant business and shopping districts. The change in technology and upgradations has lead chatswood to be subjugated for various reasons.Chatswood offers a gleaming skyline dominated by modern high rise office and residential buildings which are visible from miles away. The region also offers close proximity to Sydney, chatswood is located on the Pacific Highway which is a just a few miles north from the Harbour Bridge and a trip would be about just 5-10 minutes via the Northern Line. Such commendable road and rail links make chatswood an idyllic place for business and leisure commuters.
Chatswood is also to harbour a variety of Chinese restaurants, some of which tender Sydney wide reputation for their Yum Cha. A few of such famous restaurants may include the Fook Yuen Seafood restaurant in Help Street, Chequers in the Mandarin centre and Kam Fook Seafood restaurant in the Westfield Shopping Centre. Apart from Chinese restaurants chatswood is also famous for serving a wide variety of world cuisines ranging from Australian, German, Thai, Indian, European, Italian, Greek, Japanese and much more.
Chatswood is also famous for its annual The Willoughby Spring Festival-a spring festival, which is the second largest in the Lower northern Sydney offering a true glimpse of a modern, multicultural and prosperous chatswood.Chatswood has it all heritage, festivity, modernity, gleaming towers, fine dining experiences, to great hotels. It is the best place to be.
