Cheap Designer Clothing - The Art of Thriftstore Shopping (3 Rules)
Cheap Designer Clothing - The Art of Thriftstore Shopping (3 Rules)
Would you love a complete new wardrobe of Ann Taylor, Tommy Hilfiger, Talbots, BCBG and Ralph Lauren for under $100.00.?
If you answered YES, YES, YES!!!
You will, without doubt, find the art of thrift store shopping for CHEAP designer clothing very intriguing.
With our suffering economy, many people are looking at thrift stores as a viable option for their shopping needs. Thrift stores offer a varied selection of everyday clothing, home furnishings, jewelry and even books. However, if your main objective is to find cheap designer clothing, there are 3 rules that must be followed!
Rule 1: Find stores that have an abundance of designer labels. "How do I do that?" you ask.
Use your online resources to make a list of thrift stores in your area. The Salvation Army and GoodWill both have online store locators. Vary your list. You will want to add stores from your neighborhood, stores near affluent areas and those in lower socioeconomic areas. A rookie thrift store adventurer will tell you that the best place to find cheap designer clothing is near affluent areas. This is not always the case. On many occasions, I have purchased Ralph Lauren pants, Talbots blazers, Ann Taylor dresses and many more designer labels for dirt cheap in not so great neighborhoods. So, remember to vary your list. What's next?
Simple. Call and ask if they have Ann Taylor, BCBG, Talbots, and Ralph Lauren. Yes, call!! Don't be shy!! Very nice and knowledgeable people work at these stores and are great at assisting shoppers. Now, refine your list based on what you have learned from your calls. You only need 1 or 2 good stores because most thrift stores restock daily or at least bi-weekly.
Rule 2: Print out a list of fashion designers. Wouldn't you hate to pass up an Adrienne Vittadini blazer that sold for $350.00 retail and was priced at $23.00 at the thrift store only because you weren't familiar with the designer. Adrienne who?
Yeah, just what I thought. Google designers A-Z for a complete list of fashion designers.
Rule 3:
Learn the store pricing system and the best days to shop. Once you have pinpointed your desired stores, you need to study their pricing system. Most Salvation Army stores have a color coded system. For example, all items with a yellow tag may be 50% off while all green tagged items sale for $4.50. These tags and therefore the prices will be moved to another set of clothing items the following week. So, the BCBG dress that was yellowed tagged and sold for $20.00 (50% off the $40.00 thrift store price) last week is green tagged this week and sales for $4.50. Now, your job is to find out which day of the week the colored tags are switched. If the tickets change on a Thursday, you should be at the thrift store early that morning to claim your BCBG dress, for the designer diva on a budget approved price of $4.50. CHA CHING!!
A list, a few phone calls and some "expert advice" and you are on your way to having a complete wardrobe of fabulous CHEAP designer clothing for under $100.00.
