For 2010, Lexus has continued its 5.0 liter engine for use in the IS-F sport sedan. This dual overhead cam (DOHC) engine offers tremendous power with a 94 mm bore, an 89.4 mm stroke and a compression ratio of 11.8 to 1. Its maximum horsepower, 416 hp, is delivered at engine speeds of 6,600 rpm and its 371 foot pounds of torque are produced at 5,200 rpm. The maximum rpm of the car is 7,000. Featuring Lexus' variable valve timing and camshaft , direct sequential fuel injection, and four valves per cylinder, the 5.0 liter powerhouse delivers uniform performance at high efficiency in every driving environment. To enhance the ability to perform, Lexus has fitted this engine with coolers for the engine oil and transmission fluid. A special oil pump is used to keep oil pressure constant even when handling corners.

Running on unleaded premium, the gas mileage for the IS-F sedan is listed as 16 miles per gallon (mpg) in city environments and 23 mpg for highway driving. The rear-driven sedan is intended to compete with other compact performance sedans such as the BMW M3, and the Mercedes-Benz C63. Going from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than five seconds, the acceleration of the IS F is fast enough to compete with any car in its class. Powering the Lexus Direct Shift transmission the 5.0 Liter engine enables the vehicle to shift gears in less than one-tenth of a second.
