A person just needs to go to the message menu where one should type PNR and then the PNR number with no space in the message and then the person need to text it to 139. Google also provides a service. A passenger can send the SMS using their 10 digit mobile number. To check the PNR status, one can send the PNR to 9773300000. Using this service, no SMS charge is deducted from the main balance. Hence, this method is pretty much better compared to the method of sending a SMS to 139.

PNR status can also be checked on the mobile if the mobile has GPRS enabled. For this, one needs to have an activated data plan. With this, one can browse on the Indian Railways site and look at the status of PNR with the help of check PNR selection on the website. A person can check the full details of the ticket. If the ticket gets confirmed, a passenger can check on the coach number and the seat number also.
