Alpha-Hydroxy or Fruit-This will remove a fine layer of outer derma using the ingredients in tomato juice, sugar and sour milk. It is best suited for those with mild to moderate acne or those looking for an extremely light and safe. This isn't ideal because it doesn't last as long as a beta-hydroxy peel and it should be tested on a small area of the body before using.

Beta-Hydroxy Acid-Highly useful for those suffering from severe acne and derived from salicin, this peel is much stronger and longer-lasting than the alpha-hydroxy peels. There is also less redness and scaling on the face than an alpha-hydroxy peel. However, there is some risk of Reye's syndrome if you have an allergy to aspirin.

Jessner's-This mild one can help with signs of aging and sun damage, as well as mild acne. As with the beta-hydroxy one, this should be avoided by those suffering from aspirin sensitivity as it is made with salicylic acid.

Phenol-This is the deepest chemical peel available and will achieve the maximum amount of exfoliation through its main ingredient, carbolic acid. This peel can produce significant results, but can be quite painful.

Retinoic Acid-Performed by a medical professional, this is very deep and may even require some kind of anesthesia or sedative to make you comfortable during the procedure. After this procedure, you must stay out of the sun for 3 months.

Trichloracetic Acid-This will penetrate the top layers of derma and remove blemishes, reversing signs of aging in the process. Well-suited to patients with darker complexion, this treatment will mean several days of healing time for your skin.
