Magic Happens When You Put On A Different Pair Of Glasses
What would happen if you changed the lenses you look through
? What might you see differently? I recently visited Walt Disney's Muppet show, and like several other venues, got to wear the 3D glasses in order to fully experience the show. Without the glasses I would not have dodged the cannon balls thrown at me, witnessed the beauty of the fish in Finding Nemo, or felt The Terminators heat of his motorcycle. Sometimes your lenses can enrich or distract from your experience.
It's a new decade; what would you like to see differently?
We wear many glasses. Our glasses are really symbolic for the files we keep in our "point of reference" drawer. You use this drawer to interpret what you see based on your unique past experiences. The point of reference glasses are used most frequently. They also cause the most discord because we all make judgments based on our own unique past experiences, and that is why it is so hard to convince someone around the conference table that the move you suggest is perfect for them.
For example, if someone asked me to go snowboarding, my file drawer is filled with ski and snow trauma, from being knocked unconscious in a sledding accident as a young child to nearly walking down the black diamond killer slope of mogul skiing I accidently misinterpreted as a beginner slope. Using these lenses I would gracefully decline the invitation. However if I had my "add new adventure to my life" glasses on, I might just give it a try!
Next to your Point of Reference Glasses sit your other lenses, your Empathy and Intellect glasses and those eye flattering Attraction glasses. But although you have a drawer of many glasses of all sizes, colors and shapes, the largest ones and the ones easiest to reach due to their also frequent use are the Judgment glasses. These glasses offer the opportunity to judge if something was right or wrong. But what if, just like the 3D glasses, we added one added dimension? What if our Point of Reference glasses had a new "opportunity" or "possibility" lens? What if our Judgment glasses did not determine if something was right or wrong, but just "was" and that was view enough? Could you experience life a bit differently?
The glasses we reach for are like flash cards; they offer to us decisions without opportunity and judge good and bad using less than a 30 second response.
So what might happen if you added a new lens, added a third dimension? You might be surprised how lightweight, flexible and brightly colored these glasses are!
It's a new decade, put on a new set of glasses, sit back, and enjoy the show! Let me know how it goes!
