, is the capital of the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is also the fourth largest city of the country. Placed on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, Chennai is also one of the ancient cities of the country. Another unique factor of Chennai is that it has the 2nd longest seashore in the world.

Chennai is also the gateway to the South, with a distinctive culture of its own. Being the hub of traditional arts, music, dance and many other art forms, Chennai houses numerous schools for traditional Bharatanatyam dance as well as for learning musical instruments like veena, violin, Guitar, and drums among others.

Ooty is a popular hill resort located amidst the panoramic settings of the Nilgiri Mountain Ranges (or the Blue Mountains) in Tamil Nadu. The topography of Ooty is dominated by undulating hills that are enwrapped in green vegetation, hillocks and meadows, vast tea gardens and eucalyptus trees among others. There are many appealing places in Ooty that can be of great interest to the tourists who visit the place. Some of them are the Botanical Gardens, the Rose Garden, Pykara Falls, Ooty Lake and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway among others.

Reaching from Chennai to Ooty is comparatively easy. Though there is no direct flight to connect the two places, one can get down at the Coimbatore airport, which is the closest airport to Ooty. There are direct flights from Chennai to Coimbatore. Upon reaching Coimbatore, taxis can be hired to Ooty.

Similarly, traveling by train is also possible. But there is only one train that has direct connectivity with Chennai and Ooty. The Nilagiri Express (12671) runs from Chennai Central to Udagamandalam (Ooty) through Mettupalayam.

Alternatively, it is also possible to travel to Mettupalayam from Chennai and then board the Nilgiri Mountain Rail from there or hire a taxi or hop on to a bus to reach Ooty. However, if one plans to board the mountain rail, it is advisable to book the tickets well in advance as the seats are limited and the trips are also few. Online booking is also available and can be availed of.

Another easy means of travelling from Chennai to Ooty is by bus. Both government and private agencies operate regular bus services between the two places and it is easy to get tickets for the same. The cost of tickets will depend upon the type of bus preferred.

Likewise, hiring a taxi or sharing a taxi from Chennai to Ooty is also a viable option, especially if one is travelling with elders and kids in the family. Though costlier than other modes, taxis provide a certain degree of comfort and luxury.
