Chicago 2010 Prius Met With Toyota Celebration
It's hard to believe that the Prius has been ashore for 10 years! In that decade
the popular Toyota hybrid has won a loyal following of drivers in the United States due to its affordability and eco-friendliness. More than 1.8 million have been sold globally and almost 900,000 of those have been in the U.S.
Prius stemmed from a realization that the green movement was not going away and, more importantly, that sustainable energy options were a must. "Toyota recognized in the 1990s that sustainable transportation would become a huge challenge in the coming decades, " Jim Lentz, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Sales USA said. And that proved to be an accurate assessment.
When Prius first came to the U.S. a goal was set to sell 12,000 cars per year. Apparently someone forgot to tell consumers because the American public went a little crazy with Prius and has made it one of the top-selling models nationwide for several years. Chicago 2010 Prius buyers have helped boost current sales even higher and there is no sign that this icon, even after the recalls, will fade in popularity.
Prius was not welcomes with open arms by everyone. Critics claimed the American public didn't want or need such as car and that even the green crowd would reject it. Well, apparently they didn't know the green crowd very well. Your Chicago used Toyota dealership is quite familiar with Prius lovers and can attest to their loyalty.
When fuel costs went sky-high a couple of years ago the Prius owners were the only ones (besides the oil company execs) who were smiling. Prius drivers, in fact, don't just think of themselves as saving on fuel, but as part of a larger movement that is making a global difference.
And Toyota has worked to increase the fuel efficiency as the Prius has gone from an average 41 mpg to an EPA rating this year of 50 mpg. Quite impressive and definitely competitive. Chicago 2010 Prius owners are certainly appreciative of their low fuel bills. Oh, and did I mention that it's faster and bigger now too?
But improving it has likely been the easy part for Toyota engineers since in the original development many parts of the Prius had to be completely created-- there was nothing out there like it that engineers could borrow from. Setting quality standards and inventing a battery that was reliable was a challenge Toyota stepped up to meet.
There are now 30 hybrid models from 12 different brands and many in the works. But Prius has remained at the front of the pack and Toyota continues to make and plan improvements. Chicago used Toyota dealership customers don't have to be impressed with all the awards and honors Prius has racked up-- they can simply drive one for themselves and understand why owners are so loyal.
Now the Plug-in Prius is here and will go on sale in 2012 after extensive test driving. In the meantime, Toyota continues to improve its battery range and look at alternative power sources, all with the customer in mind.
