Chinchilla Abuse - Do Not Let It Happen In Your Home
There are many forms of abuse that animals must endure through their lives at the hand of man. It is truly sad that man is capable of such things, such as abusing creatures like chinchillas. Yet almost daily you hear, and read of stories of chinchillas that have been abused.
What is even sadder is that many of the humans that are the abusers have no remorse or guilt for their actions. Daily a person can continue to allow a chinchilla to sit in a small cage and waste away, watching the life and spirit of the animal diminish.
Chinchillas are subject to many kinds of abuse mostly for the sake of the precious little creatures fur it wears on it body. Chinchillas sit day after day in tiny cages, which are stacked on top of one another. These cages are barely big enough for the chinchilla to turn around in. The cages are not properly cleaned, so they smell and harbor diseases. Chinchillas can acquire fungus from this type of living conditions; this fungus lives on the chinchillas. Fungus will cause hair lose in chinchillas, so the chinchilla is no longer of any use to the abuser. Many times in this situation the chinchilla is removed from its cage and by the very hand of man is literally killed.
Many other chinchillas grow sick and die from the poor living conditions, the ones who die no longer have to suffer daily abuse. Most of the chinchillas have to drink unsafe water since the cages are dirty the water is unattended as well. Water can harbor bacteria, and grow stagnant if it sits to long. So the chinchilla if forced to drink nasty water.
Most of the abuse a chinchilla suffers is for the sake of the fur industry, from people who are greedy for money. These people do not care about the source the animal itself. They only see the dollars the fur can bring them. How ever not only chinchillas in fur farms are at risk from abuse there are other situations where abuse is found.
Chinchilla abuse can come in the form of neglect, say a person buys a chinchillas for a pet for a child. Once the new and excitement wears off of the pet it sits in the cage neglected, forgotten. In this situation the chinchilla get very little attention if any. And the child is not responsible enough to even feed the chinchilla daily or maybe not at all. So this poor creature suffers, thirsts, and goes hungry. Its cage is left unattended so the chinchilla has to live in unsafe conditions.
Another form of abuse is from people who just raise the chinchillas as a source of income; many times they will have way too many chinchillas to care for. This also leads to the chinchillas being neglected; no pet should have to be caged constantly through its entire life. Pets were meant to be played with and cared for.
Please before you choose to bring a pet into your home go to your local shelter first. Chinchillas from shelters need good home filled with love and adoration not abuse and loneliness.
