Headaches range from mild to severe
Headaches range from mild to severe. The chances are at some point in their life, everyone will experience a headache. For most people, a quick trip to the medicine cabinet for some pain relief is all they need.
But what about those that don't find relief from over the counter medications? Many of these people will try to grin and get through the pain. Hoping and waiting the unbelievable pain will go away. Still for others, this is not an option. Something has to be done or the pain won't go away.
Does Massage Help for Headaches?
Since the majority of headaches are tension related, massage does wonders for quick relief. Those who experience headaches several times a week will be thrilled to hear that regular massage has been shown to reduce the number and severity of headaches.
Does Chocolate Make Headaches Worse?
Food allergies can cause headaches in a number of people. If you experience frequent headaches, it may be a good idea to reduce the more common food allergies. Common food allergies are milk, cheese, peanuts, sugar, and (yes) chocolate.
Before you rid your life of your favorites, keep a record of your headaches. Then eliminate or cut back on one food at a time. This way you won't have to cut out a favorite food that wasn't causing any problems.
However, you will want to start with your favorite food. Unfortunately, the one food you don't think you could possibly live without is often the problem. For some reason, people have very intense cravings for foods they are actually allergic to.
Can Vitamin Deficiency Cause Headaches?
It is important to get all your daily nutrients whether or not you are cutting out foods. There are forty essential nutrients. A vitamin deficiency in any one of those essential nutrients can cause headaches.
Vitamin A, E, and C help build the immune system and help prevent headaches. Selenium, magnesium, niacin, and calcium all support a healthy immune system which helps prevent headaches. You can increase your intake of these vitamins through carrots, broccoli, celery, and spinach.
If you are still not getting enough nutrients, then a visit to a chiropractor may be helpful. Chiropractors are trained in nutrition and can help you pinpoint the lacking nutrients. Many chiropractors carry physician grade nutrients in their office for easy purchase.
When Should I Go To the Emergency Room?
For those who don't ever experience severe headaches or migraines, this may sound strange but there are times when an ER visit is a good idea. The emergency room will most likely give you fluid to prevent dehydration. Dehydration is a common cause of headaches and a saline IV has no harmful side effects.
The emergency room doctors will want a history and will want to know when the headache started. Sometimes, headaches are more than headaches and can be a symptom of a severe problem. If you are experiencing the worst headache you have ever had, then an ER visit is probably a good idea. The doctors there can check you for infection or other physical ailments that would cause such extreme pain.
