Choi Donated $100,000 to Japan Earthquake

All of us may know that K.J. Choi is a South Korean professional golfer. He is known as K. J. Choi in many countries. Since turning pro in 1994, he has won a total of 17 professional golf tournaments, including seven on the PGA Tour.

South Korean golf star K.J. Choi donated $100,000 to Japan earthquake and tsunami relief efforts by the American Red Cross through his foundation on Friday.

Many of these golfers will just tee up the ball and then take their stance right after attempting to line up by looking down the fairway after they have addressed the ball. Some will take a step back and glance down the fairway before they take their stance, but never really take the time to see the target line.

Basically, all they will do is grip the golf club and address the ball. In this way, there is no way of knowing if they are properly aligned or not. This leads to errant shots, usually a push or slice to the right and into the rough or worse.

Before starting his second round at the $5.5 million PGA Transitions Championship, the 40-year-old from Wando made his pledge to help those trying to help victims of the devastation and urged others to follow his example.

"It is shocking and terribly sad to see what is happening every day in Japan and the difficulty they face in overcoming this disaster," Choi said. "The situation in Japan impacts us all on a global level. This is the time for us to join our hands together and do all we can to help our friends in Japan."

Choi who may like the Callaway FT-iZ Driver played on the Japanese Tour in 1999 before earning a place on the US PGA Tour, where he has won seven titles.

"I have special memories of playing golf game in Japan as it set the stepping stone in helping me to become the first Korean to earn a US PGA Tour card," Choi said. "I want to implement projects that can attract continuous interest and support to help our neighbors in Japan."

Choi narrowly missed an eighth US PGA title -- and his first victory since the 2008 Hawaiian Open -- at this event a year ago, settling for second behind American Jim Furyk.
