Decision making can be a struggle. Everyday we are faced with moments of choice. What are you going to wear? Cook or get fast food? Drive or take the bus? Brush your teeth or fall asleep? Most daily confrontations with selection are simple. More substantial decisions might include buying a car, choosing a graduate school, going on a vacation, having kids, getting married, dropping out of school or accepting a new job. These tend to be a little harder than deciding between the red blouse or the green dress.

They will either change the direction of your life or require significant monetary investment. It is important not to neglect the weight of such choices and choose wisely. What do you think about buying a computer? This is one decision that people often give very little thought. How much does a computer affect your life? Think for a second about how many things you do on a computer every day. A lot. People do not realize how much thought should go into such a purchase. It could change your life.

A computer is more like a species of product than an actual product. When you go to the zoo, you do not go there to see the marsupials. You go there to see the kangaroo. Narrow it down! A computer is made up of so many things. Start with the operating system. Mac or Windows? One operating system or another can change your entire computing lifestyle. You might not know what you are missing. What brand and speed of processor? You might think processor has everything to do with speed. I mean after all it does handle the processing, but a great processor does not guarantee a fast computer.

There is RAM to think about. This is memory. This is like the short term memory of your computer. The quality and quantity of memory will greatly affect the speed of the machine. Do not forget to consider a graphics card. Do you edit movies, design graphics, play games or do anything that requires graphics processing? If you do, remember to get a good one. Now decide if you would like your computer to be portable and how you want it to look.

People spend countless hours on their computers. Choosing a computer should be like choosing someone to marry. It will be your companion supporting you in your life. It will be worth the effort.
