Choosing The Best Pmps Besides Ipod Nano
The first fight for top sport sees the excellent Samsung YP "" S5 and the Samsung
T10 slug it out with the iPod Nano (3G here), the SanDisk Sansa E280 and the iRiver X20 go neck and neck with everyone. Both Samsungs aren"t flawless, however "" my close tests reveal what seemed like a slight roll off for lower frequency sounds in the first couple of octaves. The highs sound excellent, however, and female vocals are delivered outstandingly. If I were to choose the two best sounding portable multimedia players from this excellent lot, the laurels would rest with the iPod Nano and the iRiver X20. From the lower to the upper bass ranges, low frequencies are defined tight, yet the thump is very important for the bass heads as it is for the audiophiles. The mid-range is well defined, smooth and full bodied and guitar detailing will knock your socks off. A glorious top- end awaits at the upper echelons of the audible sonic spectrum. The Cowon iAudio 7 loses only by a hair"s breadth, but bass on the iAudio is astounding "" a deep hit""in""the-gut feeling that was especially noticeable with the circum-aural Audio Technica reference cans. Once again, I must caution you - such detailing is only possible on good headphones. The default ear buds that ship even with some of the best players are atrociously short of any kind of aural experience, and if you"re serious about sound, you"ll chuck them out.
The YES YMP 45, Philips GoGear and Mitashi MWI "" 4GA just aren"t in the league as the above mentioned portable multimedia players, and the Sony NWZ "" S615F and Creative Zen 4 GB falls slap "" bang in the middle of the best and the rest.
If you are looking for something primarily a video player, then you should look at a different category. The YES YMP 45, Creative Zen, and the Mitashi MWI "" 4GA have the largest screen "" and size matters when you are talking anything visual. The Creative Zen will win the race for the best video portable multimedia player, because it"s got a better screen and has excellent music quality to began with.
Finally, it is your choice actually. What features you require, how much music you listen to, in what other ways you are going to use the portable multimedia player etc. should be taken into consideration. iPod Nano is a good all-rounder but you should realize that it is not the only portable multimedia player. There are other portable multimedia player that are as good as or even better than the iPod Nano. When you go to buy a portable multimedia player test it" listen to some songs in it" see if you like the sound quality and watch some videos too. Don"t forget to check it the player or the headphones given with it has voice cancellation qualities, if it does not.. but a good headphone then and there. ;)
