Some smaller ones can be switched modes to function in different colors.

An important thing to check while buying a lightbar is whether it has got to be permanently mounted or has a temporary mounting mechanism. For those who may not use the lightbar continuously, it is better to go in for temporary mounting ones with magnetic mounts or adhesive straps. They can then shift it from one vehicle to another or move it from the inside to the outside or from rear bumper to front bumper without much difficulty.

For a lightbar required for undercover operations, the mount can be temporary or permanent depending upon whether the vehicle will be required for the purpose continuously or inconsistently. In both instances the lightbar has got to be low profile for stealth operations. A low profile lightbar will be absolutely clear so that it will not be visible unless it is switched on. If the low profile lightbar has to be mounted outside the vehicle, it should be thin with a roof hugging pattern so as to make it merge with the roof. A low profile lightbar will be more fuel efficient than the larger conspicuous lightbars. As such it is the better option for all users unless the task at hand requires that the lightbar should be highly visible.

Then there is the cost to consider. In the case of a lightbar, the cost difference between a halogen lightbar and an LED lightbar can be very high. A halogen lightbar will be quite reasonably priced so that for those who will need one only occasionally for emergencies, it is best to go in for a halogen lightbar.

However, for those who will need to use their lightbars frequently, an LED lightbar will be the right choice. An LED lightbar is so energy efficient that it will require only half the fuel necessary to power a halogen bar. Besides, it will last for a pretty long time as well. Because of these, even though an LED lightbar is quite expensive, as a long term investment it will be a sound idea.

And finally the level of customer support provided by the manufacturer is also important when buying a lightbar. The length of warranty is important while buying any product. As a lightbar is getting modified quite frequently, it will be better to buy one which has upgradation options, and also warranty renewal when you buy the new model.
