Choosing Your Next Car The Key Points To Remember
Buying a car is a big decision
Buying a car is a big decision. For some it is easy to do as they will have a particular model or brand of car in mind, but for a lot of people they will simply want to buy a car that gets them from point A to point B. A hasty decision when it comes to buying cars could pose a big problem further down the line as you may find that the car you chose does not meet your needs and may even require you to trade it in or buy a different, more suitable car instead.
The first part of the buying process shouldnt be the superficial things like the colour and whether it has a CD player but it should be based on price along with other important factors. Before setting out to the forecourts and showrooms in your area you should venture out with a budget in mind, bear in mind this budget may need to include additional costs such as car tax, insurance and MOT.
A lot of online car sellers and classifieds will allow you to filter results by price, setting a maximum limit on what you want to spend. After this it is going to be best to think about what type of car you are looking for. Obviously a large family with two or more children will not want a three door car but there are other reasons you may want a larger vehicle such as people who work from home or operate a home business. These people will have plenty of parcels and other goods on board so will appreciate the additional storage space.
The best step to take after this is considering the brand and models of the cars you are looking at, some models get a particularly good write up from reviewers and mechanics. You will want to buy a car that is reliable and isnt going to be overly expensive to repair or find replacement parts. Asking around at garages, showrooms and friends and family will get you a good idea on what cars are good runners or are cheap to maintain.
Once you have narrowed your choice down to one or two models then you will want to start booking viewings with the owners, try to be clever about when you visit them though. Never view a car at night, the darkness will help to cover any scratches and limit your ability to properly inspect the vehicle. Likewise with the weather, if it has been raining then this masks a lot of bodywork damage and scratches.
When it comes down to the offer you should try and get some money knocked off the asking price but if you have done your homework and noticed the price is fair for the age of the car then dont be too pushy as you will want the deal to be amicable in case you need to get back in touch in the future.
