Chronic Fatigue Overview
Chronic fatigue also denoted as CFS is a syndrome that has affected various people around the world
. An individual is described as having CFS from a combined number of symptoms that last for a long period of time (more than six months) and with serious adverse results. Fatigue is a common feeling in many people after a hard days work, but chronic fatigue is a more serious aspect where constant fatigue is the most outspoken symptom. The cause for CFS has not yet been clearly established by the medical world but several researches by various scientists around the world have been directed towards this effort.
Chronic Fatigue Causes
Studies have shown that CFS may be related to an infection that an individual experienced in the past which may have weakened their immune system. This speculation however has not been proven 100% though it remains a possibility. The fact that the cause for chronic fatigue has not been discovered yet may frighten and astound many but various treatments have however been formulated by doctors to assist those suffering from the syndrome, these treatments are designed to make the individuals daily routine in their lives a little bit more easier to handle.
Chronic Fatigue Symptoms
There are various symptoms that can identify CFS in an individual. It is important for a person to have at the least some basic knowledge of these symptoms so that they can be able to identify the disease in any friend or family who may be unknowingly suffering from it.
The main symptoms that can identify this syndrome include:
a) Experiencing constant fatigue no matter how much rest the individual gets. This fatigue will also last for a long period of time surpassing six months.
b) Soreness of the throat occurring for no apparent reason. This symptom may sometimes be overlooked as the individual may think that he is just in need of a glass of water but persistent soreness can also be attributed to chronic fatigue.
c) Experiencing common lapses in concentration as well as having difficulty with your short term memory is also a common symptom of chronic fatigue.
d) Experiencing headaches that have notably become more severe than previous ones and are occurring on a fairly regular basis.
e) Experiencing pain either in the muscles or the individuals joints, this pain is not accompanied by any swelling.
If you experience these symptoms simultaneously then one should visit the doctor in the shortest amount of time possible in case they may be suffering from chronic fatigue.
Individuals suffering from the symptoms of CFS can worsen the situation by placing themselves in an inappropriate environment. The first thing one should do in order to avoid increasing the intensity of the chronic fatigue symptoms is to avoid any activity or situation that may bring about stress in the individual. One should also avoid taking their body through too much physical exertion as this increases the fatigue that is experienced by the individual. Those suffering from CFS would be wise to not over exert themselves especially during activities such as work out routines and exercises. One should also ensure that they get an adequate amount of sleep if they suffer from CFS. Lack of sufficient sleep may also worsen the symptoms such as tiredness which may be increased.
Chronic Fatigue Demographic
There has not been an established pattern in the demographic of people that are most likely to be infected by this syndrome as of yet. So far CF has infected different people all over the world with no substantial relationship linking them to the syndrome. It is also present in various geographical areas around the world and not significantly prevalent in any one particular location.
Chronic Fatigue Characteristics
Apart from the various symptoms of the syndrome, one should also know the characteristics of CFS. An individual who reflects these characteristics may be suffering from chronic fatigue:
a) If these symptoms have lasted for up to or more than six months. The length of the period for which a person has experienced this fatigue and how regularly it is experienced is also a factor to consider.
b) Though this may worsen the symptoms in an individual suffering from CFS, constant physical exertion is not the cause of the syndrome and those who do not suffer from it can not attract it through over exerting themselves.
c) The fatigue experienced can not be relieved through acquiring enough rest by the individual. No matter how much sleep one is able to get, the tiredness is still a persistent feeling in those suffering from chronic fatigue.
d) CFS affects the entire individuals lifestyle as they are no longer able to comfortably perform the various physical activities that they would have easily undertaken in the past. The syndrome limits ones capabilities to an extent.
Chronic fatigue however does not have to destroy your whole life and various medical therapies and treatments have been developed to fight the symptoms. The type of medication used to treat chronic fatigue in an individual should however be considered according to that particular person as some people may be sensitive to some types of medication.
