Ciit: A 21st Century Multimedia School In The Philippines

The Philippines produces approximately half a million graduates every year

. Of these, 150,000 are business graduates and 100,000 are alumni of engineering and information technology courses. Sadly, despite the availability of career opportunities for the new media art in both domestic and global labor markets, graduates of information and communications technology (ICT) find it extremely difficult to land a job. As observed by the Technical Committee on Government Academe Industry Linkage (TC-Gail), while the industry grows 30-35 percent yearly, the ICT workforce is only flourishing at a rate of 10 percent. So, what seems to be the problem?

With the continuous advancement of technology, the country needs to produce globally competitive graduates who can adapt and survive to the ever-changing worlds burdens and challenges. Unfortunately, there are a number of academic institutions in the country that offer outdated computer-related courses and obsolete training modules. As a result, career opportunities for graduates from such institutions are not as lucrative and copious compared to graduates from reputable schools.

Q: What needs to be done?

A: Programs and curriculums of IT, digital arts, and multimedia schools in the Philippines must be a par with the international level of quality academic training to cope with global demands. The schools set of courses and facilities must be aligned with global standards and must also be approved by the experts in the related industry.

Apart from the improvement of core curriculums, computer schools must employ qualified faculty members and utilize leading-edge software applications to ensure world-class learning experience.

CIIT: Since its inception in the Philippines, CIIT has been continuously updating its syllabus and modules to provide the latest, accredited, and industry-expert courses, as well as relevant training programs and services to its students.

Its courses and trainings are run by qualified, dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable instructors who are also industry practitioners. Their intensive hands-on trainings are implemented utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and tools to advance the skills and ability of each student in their respective fields.

In fact, some of CIIT students have made waves in the realm of digital and multimedia arts, their names and success story are cited below:

Oliver Santiago. A computer graphics design freshman at CIIT, Oliver was featured in the Lifestyle section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer for his achievement in gracing the Graphika Manila 2012 booklet and for making it all the way to the cover page. Also, his accomplishment for being one of the creators of the teaser video of the said event was included.

Mitzi Michaela Cabrera and Michelle Karyl Nerona. The school takes pride in the artistry and technical skills that these two girls have showcased in their recent music video school project for the renowned band, Up Dharma Down. Due to their excellent creation, the band even published the music video on their blog site to exhibit the amazing work of art of Mitzi and Michelle to the public.

Kathleen Gibson and Tracy Gibson. The Gibson sisters both bagged several prizes in the 2011 Best of Anime Convention held at the SMX Convention Center. Katherine, the eldest, took the 1st place in the Quick Draw competition, 2nd in the Video and Music Competition, and 1st in Character Design; while Tracy placed 2nd in the Quick Draw and 3rd in the Video and Music category.

To ensure the future of their students after graduation, CIIT partnered with the best in the industry including IBM Philippines, Anino Games, and Go-live Pacific. This significant move not only helps new graduates in their initial job hunt; it also proves CIITs credibility in providing first-class education and in being an epitome of a 21st century multimedia school in the Philippines.
