. One such destination is Berlin. It might take longer than a weekend to explore Berlin, but it's the ultimate location for any city breaks thanks to the variety of sights on offer.

Berlin is the largest city in Germany and the second biggest city in Europe in terms of population. It's established itself as a world force when it comes to culture, politics, media and science, which is just one reason why Berlin is one of the most visited cities in the EU.

The capital's history is well documented, but the influence of the Berlin Wall can still be seen in the city. Whether its the dauntingly tall Brandenburg gate, or the Check Point Charlie museum, Berlin doesn't really escape it's past. You can even see the odd Traubi driving past - a sight rarely seen in other regions of the country.

It's home to a few must-see buildings, such as the TV tower at Alexanderplatz, which is one of the tallest structures in Europe. It's so high it can be seen from most parts of Berlin, offering stunning views of the capital from its observation floor. The Reichstag, which is the seat of the German parliament, is equally as impressive. The glass dome which covers the session area allows free public access to parliamentary proceedings as well as more views of Berlin.

Another thing Germany is famous for is its Christmas markets, and Berlin excels at hosting these. They draw floods of tourists in every winter, with over fifty markets to choose from.

Combined with the fact that Berlin is one of the cheaper European cities, and it's no surprise that millions of people decide on city breaks in the capital.
