City Scooter Users Benefit From New, Safer Tyre

According to Michelin Tyres, scooter tyres may be small in size but their significance

to the riders of these practical and enjoyable machines is far greater than their diminutive dimensions might suggest. In fact Michelin Tyres maintain that more than 80% of scooter riders expect to use their machines daily as can easily be observed from the large numbers of scooters being seen in the daily commute - especially in the busier urban and city centre locations where their compact dimensions and sharp manouvreability have made them so popular. Michelin Tyres has responded to this with an innovative new tyre design.

In creating a new tyre especially designed for this market, Michelin Tyres came to realise that this very high usage rate inevitably means that scooter riders must be prepared for all weather conditions in order to successfully negotiate their way across the commuter traffic. Under these circumstances it was clear to Michelin Tyres that scooter tyres are faced with a fairly demanding task. The City Grip Scooter tyre from Michelin Tyres has been designed specifically for this task and is likely therefore to be of great interest to scooter riders in urban locations throughout the country.

Designed for use on scooters with engine capacities of 125cc and above, the new City Grip Scooter tyre from Michelin Tyres is clearly making waves across the industry. Moreover, the tyre has already been approved for mounting as original equipment (OE) on scooters manufactured by Aprilla, Gilera, MBK, Peugot, PIaggio and Yamaha and Michelin Tyres are also attracting the attention of other manufacturers.

The City Grip Scooter tyre is the first tyre of its type to feature Michelin Tyres' latest Progressive Sipe Technology (PST), which has been expressly developed in order to improve safety on wet roads. This new design from Michelin Tyres provides the best compromise between grip and tyre life and ensures that the tyre will offer scooter riders exceptional value for money as well as high safety levels. Indeed, this is where the City Grip Tyre from Michelin Tyres excels with its advanced sipe design.

Michelin Tyres' PST features sipes which run the full depth of the tread rubber to cut through the film of water on wet roads and so maintain better contact with the road surface. The number of sipes increases towards the shoulder of the tyre so that more of them are in contact with the road as the bike leans in corners, increasing grip and improving safety, even when riding over white lines and manhole covers. In addition, Michelin Tyres has incorporated a new tread design which gradually changes from slick in the centre of the tread to heavily grooved at the shoulders.
