Too many files that are unneeded or simply being unused can take up space in your computers hard drive. Once you have too many of these types of files, whether they are corrupt or not, your computer will bog down and begin running slow.

1) Remove Unwanted Files

Whenever your computer boots up, it does something called "File Indexing", which is where Windows takes note of all the files you have on your system (it allows for faster searching when Windows is running). This means that if you have more files than you need, this process is going to end up running longer & longer, slowing your system down. To make sure that you do not have to put up with this issue, you should try removing any unwanted files that are on your hard drive, by selecting them and pressing SHIFT + DELETE to permanently delete them.

2) Uninstall Unwanted Programs

Windows 7 makes it very easy to install any programs you want onto your computer, but this can also cause your system to run slower. This is because programs make your computer slow down, as they take up memory and other system resources. The likes of Skype and AIM take a lot of memory and CPU speed, preventing your system from running very quickly at all. To combat this problem, it's advised that you uninstall any programs that you don't need or use.

3) Clean Out The Registry

The registry is a database that lies at the core of Windows, allowing it to store all sorts of settings and information about your system. The registry is extremely important, but is also the main cause of Windows 7 running slowly. The problem is that since the registry is being used so much, Windows gets confused and ends up saving many registry files in the wrong way. This causes the database to become corrupted and damaged, leading your system to run slower as it tries to decode the settings it needs. This problem grows with time, and if you don't clean out the registry on a regular basis, it can lead to your PC becoming unusable.
