Cleaning Clothes Can Be Costly
Due to an increase in living, many people are turning to different solutions when it comes to keeping costs down
. One of these methods is how to save money doing laundry. Here are a few tips to keep some extra cash in your pocket while completing this regular household chore.
Clothes washers and dryers can account for a big part of your electricity bill. Since ninety percent of your laundry bill results from heating the water, adjust your washer to the proper water level. This can save you money. Washing your clothes in cold water instead of hot or warm, can decrease your expenses as well.
When using the dryer, be sure to set the timer accordingly. The longer you leave clothes inside to dry, the more your bill will be. If you have a small load, make sure you do not allow them to tumble just as long as what a large load would. Keep in mind that the larger the load, the longer it takes to dry. Be sure to clean the lint filter after each use.
A clothes line works wonders and will save you a good amount of money each month. Hang a line somewhere outside in the area of your choice. Add a few blankets, quilts, sheets, and pillowcases instead of waiting for them to dry inside the dryer. This takes a longer period of time than normal clothes do.
To much laundry soap results in a waste of money and another trip to the store. Just because the container gives a recommended amount doesn't mean you have to follow it. Figure out what amount works best for you and then mark it on the cap. This will reduce your detergent costs.
A cheap, simply but effective laundry soap can be made from the comfort of your own home. Use one cup of grated soap, half a cup of washing soda, and half a cup of borax. Only one tablespoon is needed to wash your clothes. That's it. Another additional benefit is that it contains no artificial chemicals or dyes so those who suffer from allergies to certain detergents will not have the same problems by using this soap.
A great way to remove stains and eliminate odors is vinegar. Not only is it cheap and a common household item, but this great product retains your clothes' color. It provides a number or different cleaning solutions and works great for laundry. Instead of wasting money on store bought items, simply walk to your kitchen and open up your pantry.
With these tips and tricks, how to save money doing laundry is relatively easy and inexpensive. Natural products are an option to store bought products. By cutting your energy usage, you can cut costs as well.
