. But gangster clothes are more than just baggy outfits. These garments had played an important part in the fashion industry. These clothes inspired hip hop fashion, which is a popular and distinctive style of today.
When one mentions gangster clothes we think of baggy clothes, bling-blings and basketball hats. The basic gangster clothes include oversized tops and baggy pants, though such clothing style has changed significantly during its history.
In the 1920s, gangsters looked very similar to a common businessman. They wore double-breasted, pin-striped suits, spats and snap-brimmed fedoras. These classic gangster clothes stressed a sense of danger, energy and menace, which reflected the aggressive image of the gangsters.
The root of gangster fashion symbolizes poor beginnings and eventual wealth. In essence, a gangster is someone who came from being poor and gained money through violent and illegal means. These are the "working gangsters". They usually wear khakis, button-down shirts and form-hugging workman's T-shirts. These are usually made of cheap fabrics and easily purchased materials.
There are also the wealthier gangsters who wear garish jewelry and accessories and expensive, high-end gangster clothes made by trendy designers. They wear popular clothing and jewelry brands that will show they can afford expensive things.
Scarface is one of the most popular movies among gangsters. The movie, starring Al Pacino as Tony Montana, was acknowledged as the tenth best in the gangster film genre. Characters in gangster movies like Scarface, reflects real-life gangsters' "values" or struggles. Thus, real-life gangsters adopt clothing styles to match that image.
European gangsters have their own style. They usually wore white T-shirt and a track suit, jewelry and sneakers. The track suit includes matching pants and jackets in primary colors.
Here are some tips if you want to look like a "gangsta" this Halloween.
1.Wear oversized or baggy clothing and try hip hop fashion. Make sure that your clothes, footwear and accessories match well as hip hop fashion is all about matching the colors.
2.Gangster clothes are all about oversized clothing but there is still the right size. To know the right size of the shirt, wear it and relax your arms. The bottom of your shirt should be near your finger tips.
3.Wear some bling or bling-bling, those flashy, ostentatious or elaborate jewelry and ornamented accessories. These accessories are carried, worn or installed. Just wear a few and do not go too far.
4.Hat is not a must but if you are considering wearing one make sure that it matches your outfit. The best way to wear a hat is by wearing it to the side. Do not forget to straighten the flap.
5.Bandanna is also a nice accessory. If you do not want to wear a hat, wear a bandanna. Fold a bandanna, about 3 fingers thin, and tie it around your forehead. You can place the knot in front of your head or on the side or back.
6.Sunglasses might not go well with a hat, so you have to choose which one to wear. If you choose to wear sunglasses, wear the big ones.
7.Wear sneakers and never wear small shoes or sandals with your gangster clothes.
Both guys and girls can wear gangster costume. The best gangster costume to wear in costume parties is the 1920s style.
Gangster suit is perfect for guys who are donning for that 1920s style. To achieve the perfect gangster suit, look for a flattering cut and a pattern of vertical pinstripes. Polish the look with a sharp looking dress shirt and tie to wear under the jacket. Stylish, coordinating shoes as well as a handsome fedora hat will complete your 1920s gangster costume.
For the girls, the right 1920s look consists of drop waist flapper dresses with shorter hemlines, fringe and sequins.
You have to have the right attitude to pull off your gangster clothes. Also, you have to talk and act like a real gangster.
