In the carpet cleaning business we use chemicals to clean. We don't say soap or shampoo, we say chemicals. This can freak some people out. The word chemical sounds powerful and dangerous; it has the verbal representation of the "hazardous waste" symbol.

The truth is, even your household cleaning supplies are all chemicals. When you spray the windows with Windex, what do you think you are using? Chemicals. Cleaning chemicals are designed for one of two purposes: either to attract dirt, or to break down dirt.

When you spray a cleaning chemical on a dirty surface it attracts dirt in the surrounding areas, then you wipe it away with a rag or in the carpet cleaning world, you extract it with a high powered vacuum machine. When you poor a drain cleaning chemical in your sink it breaks the dirt down. It chemically destroys the dirt, and then you rinse it all out by pouring water down the drain.

So when you hear your carpet cleaning company say chemicals, don't freak out. Cleaning chemicals are just agents that are used to eliminate dirt. Now, there are green certified chemicals. These chemicals are safe for your pets and infants. Some chemicals can affect your respiratory health.

You must make sure that your cleaning company does a thorough job of rinsing out the cleaning chemicals. Otherwise, if they stay in your carpet, they will just attract more dirt. After all, that is what they are designed to do, isn't it? Your carpets will be dirtier than before.
