Their hallmark features include long tail feathers and a pointed crest. Their tail feathers are so long they actually make up a large percentage of their total length. When relaxed, the crest is slightly upturned whereas when excited, it stands almost straight up. Their plumage is often grey in color with white on their wings. At the very least, your pet needs a home that is wider than their wingspan. They are active avians and should spend some time each day out and able to truly flap their wings. These birds are ground feeders. This makes a wide model better than a tall one. For this reason a floor grate is also necessary to keep them out of their own droppings. Cockatiel cages should also include things to keep the bird stimulated. Multilevel perches provide fun and exercise.
