Cold Air Intake Systems
We are always looking for new and improved ways to modify our vehicles
, and cold air intake systems are just another way to keep our engines cool, provide additional oxygen, and ultimately achieve a much better fuel mileage count than we would have had previously.
Among automobile parts these are some of the most important, and with that being the case it becomes very important for us to understand their installation process.
First of all, you need to make sure you have all the right tools, and considering that all vehicles are different it would be wise to make sure you have a complete socket set on hand to compensate for any problems that you might have. In addition to that make sure you have a complete screwdriver set and any other items that the installation manual might call for.
As with the installation of any other automobile parts you will want to make sure that your vehicle is on level ground and that the parking brake is engaged. In addition to that it would be a good idea to make sure that your engine is cooled down so that it can be easily touched. The next thing you will need to do is open the hood, prop it, and disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
You will notice that there is already an air intake system installed, and you will need to remove it before you can proceed. In order to do this, locate the connecting tube for the air box and remove it. There are a few vacuum hoses that need to be removed before you can proceed, so loosed the clamps around the ends by using the appropriate screwdriver usually a standard flathead.
If your vehicle has an MAF, or Mass Air Flow Sensor, make sure you remove that and set it aside. Remove an other parts, such as the stock box in the engine bay and then read over the list of parts for your new cold air intake system.
Note that the installation procedure will differ depending on the vehicle you are installing it for. Automobile parts differ between models and as a result you will want to make sure you have the proper paperwork for your vehicle.
The next step will be to attach your new air filter to the cold air intake pipe, and you will want to ensure that your air filter is preoiled. Once you have determined that the filter is in decent condition you can place it at the end of the intake pipe and secure it. There are a few simple instructions involved in the installation of any new cold air intake systems though it is typically different for various vehicles.
There are a few things in the assembly that are universal however, the first being the number of holes that should be in the cold air intake pipe. If you have more holes than hoses it would be a good idea to plug the extra holes with the provided grommets. After this you will need to attach the silicone coupling to the throttle body and secure that coupling by tightening the hose clamp.
Another clamp should be fitted to the other end of the hose but you must hold off on tightening it until you place the intake tube into the silicone coupling, and once all of the proper hoses are tightened you can proceed to plug the mass flow sensor into the new intake system.
Once everything is connected properly, you can close the hood and resume normal operation. As you can see, cold air intake systems are relatively easy to install so long as you follow the instructions and make sure you execute the right actions for your particular vehicle. Don't worry, it won't be long until you're up and running once again!
