Cold Sores - Avoid The Painful Lip Sores

If you are unfortunate enough to get cold sores

, you are not alone; many thousands of people suffer from them and are constantly searching for a cold sore treatment so that they can get relief from the pain and discomfort they cause.

They are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) which, when one is infected, hides deep in the nerve roots until it is triggered by stress, colds and flu, anxiety a lack of sleep or even exposure to the sun. The body's immune system normally has great difficulty in dealing with the virus which is why they often reoccur.

It is the outcome of the reproductive process of the herpes simplex virus, that, having entered a healthy cell, causes that cell to duplicate the virus and cause the actual sores. The virus then destroys the host, releasing millions of cells in a confined area, which produces what is commonly called the cold sore.

Every effort should be made to find a cold sore treatment quickly, because they are very contagious. Kissing or close contact with the sores or contact with what appears to be normal skin that is shedding the virus can enable the virus to be passed from one person to another.

Contact with infants, anyone who has eczema, or people with a suppressed immune system, should be avoided, i.e. people with cancer, AIDS or an organ transplant.

The risk of passing the infection to others is greatly reduced when after a few days the blisters have dried and crusted over. However, saliva, if infected is another way the virus can be transmitted to others, even if a cold sore is not visible.

If you are aware of the early symptoms you can treat them promptly. Some symptoms to look out for are:

- A burning or tingling sensation underneath the skin, called the prodrome. More often than not experienced from just a few hours to a few days prior to the appearance of the blisters.

- The area of the lips, mouth or nose may become reddened and develop small fluid filled blisters. Sometimes small blisters may come together to form a larger blister.

When they reoccur, the blisters dry up more quickly but leave scabs, that typically last from a day to several days. Medical advice should be sought to treat cold sores early to avoid any complications, when people have a weak immune system.

There are countless treatments available across the counter or from your family doctor, to treat cold sores, producing various results, but now there are extremely effective and fast acting natural treatments available that allow you to get cold sore treatment quickly and eliminate them forever. If you suffer from unsightly cold sores you should investigate these natural treatments which so many people are now raving about.
