Collecting And Restoring Pinball Machines

Some people collect bottle caps

Some people collect bottle caps. Others collect comic books. And, there are many people who enjoy collecting classic pinball machines. Although this can be an expensive hobby, it is also a very rewarding one, especially when a collector comes across that one special gem they have been seeking for years, or one that they used to play as a child or teenager.

Collecting Pinball Machines

Since its creation in the early part of the 20th century, pinball machines have been a popular means of entertainment for millions of people. There are some really great machines that have come on the market over the years, and now, many of these pinball machines are considered to highly collectible, and are very much sought after. Many people begin their pinball collecting hobby just as they would any other collection: they just sort of fall into it. Often a person who has no intention of collecting pinball machines picks up one they found in a second-hand shop that they used to play as a kid. Then, they find another one somewhere else, and figure, what the heck, one more won't hurt. Then, it starts to snowball, and before they know it, they are avid pinball collectors.

There are many ways to go about getting your pinball collection started. Of course, there are many places to get new and refurbished pinball machines. Pinballs R' Us has an awesome selection of great classic pinball games, including some of the old fav's like Gorgar and Flash, and many of the newer classic games such as The Addams Family, NASCAR and The Family Guy.

Another way to begin a pinball collection is to visit second-hand stores and auctions. It doesn't hurt to let antique dealers know that you are looking for classic pinball machines, and leave your name and telephone number/email address with them, just in case anything should happen to come in. You should also check out auction sites such as E-bay, where you will find all kinds of pinball machines and other pinball-related items.

Restoring Pinball Machines

If you are collecting pinball machines, and are the least bit mechanically inclined, you really should consider purchasing machines that need work. They often cost a lot less than newer machines or classics that are in great shape, and with a little bit of TLC, they can be restored to their former glory. There are many companies that offer pinball parts, so you can fix up just about any machine. Specs are available for most machines, so you won't be working blind.

Collecting and restoring pinball machines can become a really rewarding hobby, because not only do you get to have fun working with your hands on something you love, in the end you will have a classic pinball machine that you and your family will be playing for years to come. And, if you have kids, restoring pinball machines can be a great activity that you can do together, and be proud of something that you all accomplished.
