College Life: Sex, Drugs And The Answer To Why Not

It is interesting to notice how every time someone is making a recommendation on what NOT do

, such aspect instantaneously becomes the object of detailed investigation. Do not do drugs. Why, everyone is doing it, so I should try out too. Do not use illegal software. Who will know? I should try and see what happens. Do not visit pages such as blah blah.com, and your fingers are already automatically typing them in the address bar. The examples are numerous, where the main complaint is that prohibiting something is rarely coming with a rational explanation containing the answer to the simple question: Why? This article will try to provide basic donts in college life, with a brief explanation on why they are better not to be tried out.

Drugs

The debates on drugs and their legalization are not within the scope of this article, and thus, they will not be approached in the legal context. Doing drugs in college will affect you in many unexpected ways. In that regard, drugs are likely to impact your ultimate goal of being in college in the first place, i.e. acquiring knowledge and developing skills. The examples of someone who do or did drugs in college and still succeeded are exceptions, rather than rules. The percentage is not important in such matter. Consider going on a narrow trail with a possibility of falling down and losing your ability to walk. Would it be helpful if such possibility was 50%? 40%? 30%? 10%?

Sex

Sex in college is sometimes seen as an essential component. The point is not to make it an ultimate goal. This rationale is not abstinence-based, rather than a recommendation for a perception change of sex. When sex is a goal, not obliged with responsibilities, relationships and commitments, it is likely that it will take you away from your main duties in college. On the other hand, it can be stated that such perception decreases the value of such act to mere physical intercourse. Basically, hookups are not good, and the fact that they are not good has nothing to do with natural physical needs. As an answer to the latter, going in for sports is your answer.
