Steve Martin wore Persol, Robert Downey Jr. wore Oliver Peoples, Sidney Hicks wore Marc Jacobsand that is just the eyewear on display at this illustrious event! Everyone looked fantastic and classically elegant rather than annoyingly underdressed or wearing something ridiculous for the sake of getting your name recognized. This year was all about a better era. The accidental theme of the awards, at least in the fashion sense, was elegance and 1950s charm. The men were all in tuxedos, with very little variation except for a few accessory changes like Downey Jr.s Oliver Peoples. The ladies were the very embodiement of grace in long, ruffled gowns that could have been just as popular in the years after WWII.

If the Grammy Awards earlier this year told us anything about fashion, it was a glimpse into what will be popular with jouvaniles. Pleather, silver, shine, jeweles and tight leggings and boots are all for the young and undiscovered. Meanwhile, the academy awards proved that A-listers do not need to make fools out of themselves to get noticed. Demi Moore looked smashing in a frilly, layered gown with a rich fabric weave at the bodice. This design seemed to be the norm rather than the exception. The it colors at the awards were bright red, simple blues and the occaspional purple or black. There were very few ostentatious yellows or oranges. It was a very tasteful event.
