Commercial Cleaners – The Importance of Health and Safety
Commercial Cleaners The Importance of Health and Safety
In many aspects of today's society "health and safety" regulations are often ridiculed or ignored as unnecessary red tape. But this is a dangerous assertion in professions where there is a genuine health and safety risk. Commercial cleaners fall in to this category. The job that they undertake is dangerous and should only be carried out by qualified professionals. But who should take the lead when it comes to safety before a job is to commence?
The simple answer is the responsibility lies with the cleaning company. They should implement their own tried and tested safety techniques and guidelines. They should ensure that not only themselves but also those around them are safe. In turn, it is also the client's responsibility to employ recommended and qualified cleaning company. But how can you tell whether a cleaning company takes safety seriously?
Trained Staff
All commercial cleaning companies should have employees that are thoroughly trained in the use of specialist cleaning equipment, products and materials. This could include using abseiling specialists for high rise cleaning or the distribution of gloves for cleaners using certain cleaning products. The cleaning company supervisor should liaise with the client to explain any risks that might be involved. A health and safety guide or manual should be presented to the client and strictly followed and adhered to.
Supervision
All work that is carried out should be supervised by a manager or an appropriately qualified supervisor to ensure that the staff are working to the agreed standards.
Up to date Equipment and Policies
All cleaning equipment whether it be water fed poles or domestic cleaning products should be checked on a regular basis to make sure they are in full working order and do not pose a health and safety risk to those using them or those who may come in contact with them. Try and check to see if the cleaning company has a safety policy that is regularly reviewed. Information such as this should be found on the company's website.
Any top commercial cleaning company will be able to match these criteria, and would not expect to start a job unless they could. The key point is to remember is that if a cleaning company does not make sure its employees are safe, then is it likely that they will consider the safety of their customers?
