Common Laboratory Apparatuses
Laboratory apparatus refer to the physical articles used for doing the various experiments in a lab. Though the kind or sophistication of apparatus depends on the level of laboratory and the type of research being done in it. For example a standard physics or chemistry lab of a school would not be equipped with the kind of apparatus used in a hi-tech research institute. But even then, there are certain lab essentials which are common in all kinds of labs. Have a look:
Microscopes
Microscopes are the machines which allow the user to view the smallest of detail of a given specimen. Slides ready with specimen are available in the market or otherwise these can be made too, at the time of viewing. Generally, plant cells, animal cells or tiny bacteria etc. are observed through a microscope. In fact, certain advanced microscopes are also capable of magnifying the inorganic materials.
Beakers
Beakers are the multi-functionary laboratory equipments used for various purposes in a lab. At the most basic, it holds samples to be used later. Apart from that they can also be used for preserving small chemical reaction. Any experiment which yields a liquid product uses beaker to catch the liquid.
Bunsen Burners
A Bunsen burner provides a ready source of heat in the lab. There is a tube within the burner which allows the air to mix with gases like methane for rendering fire. Once the flame is successfully lit, the air hole in the tube helps the user to adjust the flame as per the requirements.
Balances
Balance as the name suggests are the equipments used for determining the mass of various things. Though earlier, balances with two flat trays were used, but today most of the laboratories use electronic balances.
Test Tube
Test tubes are the small vessels used for holding samples or other liquid materials in small quantity.
Multimeter
Experiments involving electricity or electronics would make use of multimeter. It is a tool to measure the voltage, current and resistance of a given substance. It also measures the alternating current (AC) and the direct current (DC).
