When a person is not able to have a good sleep, or is getting restless during the nights, and is having daytime sleep and dysfunction, that particular situation is often termed as a sleep disorder. This disorder is suffered today by countless Americans, in fact millions of them. There happen to be many types of sleep disorders. And we'll discuss few of the important ones.

One of the most important sleep disorders is insomnia. Insomnia is a condition wherein a person finds it to go asleep. Patient is sometimes woken up in the night and finds himself difficult to go back to sleep. Insomnia can even lead to non-refreshing sleep. Sometimes in insomnia, a person wakes up early in the morning, regardless of how much of sleep he had. Insomnia extends to day time too; one starts getting fatigue, and problems with moods and concentration. The time insomnia lasts and its frequency of occurrence often determines its magnitude. It can be either short term which is known as acute insomnia or it can also be long time which is called as chronic insomnia. Insomnia can also make its occurrence with a prolonged gap between every occurrence. Sleeping pills have the ability to avert insomnia temporarily, but as these pills happen to have side effects, it's required that you consult your doctor before you begin using them.

Sleep apnea is another kind of sleep disorder, which is of a serious kind that usually arises when a person's breathing is being interrupted during the sleep. The people who are a victim of this disorder often skip breath; or in other words, they do not breathe repeatedly while they are asleep. Hundreds of breath is skipped in this disorder. There are 2 types of apnea; Central and Obstructive apnea. The latter one is more common among the two. It's caused because of the blockage of the airway, which usually happen because of soft tissue located to the rear of throat collapses while the person is sleeping. In the other kind of apnea even if the airway is not blocked, the brain will be unable to signal the muscles to keep breathing, because of the instability inside the respiratory control center.

Narcolepsy is one more kind of sleep disorder. Narcolepsy is considered to be a neurological disorder which is concerned with the regulation of sleep which affects the control of sleep and also wakefulness. The patients having this disorder keep sleeping throughout the day intermittently, and they keep complaining about the same thing. Irrespective what the patient would have been doing, a sleep attack might hit him, and he'd fall asleep wherever he was. Fifteen to twenty five age groups are more prone to this disorder than anyone else. Most of the times, narcolepsy goes Unnoticed, undiagnosed and thus un treated.
