When choosing a multifunction printer, take into consideration the price of the ink and what printer repairs are likely to be needed in the long term. The cost of printer cartridges is also a necessary part of the equation. And while cost may be a necessary factor in your decision there are also other things to be considered such as the amount of paper it will hold and whether the paper holder is horizontal or vertical.
If you don't do a lot of printing, the paper in a vertical paper holder will often absorb moisture from the atmosphere and become soft, falling over to the back, unless the printer is placed right against the wall for paper support. A horizontal paper tray does not have this problem.
Also take into account the LCD display that many multifunction printers have. Brightness and clarity are necessary, but a larger sized screen will not necessarily be a clearer one. If possible, see one running in the shop before you purchase it. And if you can get one with a graph that displays how much ink is left you will be a lot less likely to run out at an inconvenient moment.
