Compounding The Weight Problem
Gaining weight
Gaining weight. It almost seems a swear word for folks, as it never seems to bring good news. Unfortunately, it occurs when and where we least expect it. Though we try to avoid foods that we think make us fat, several small factors actually play a key role in maintaining a healthy weight. The things we do every day, habits that we overlook, tend to have a bad influence on the mind and body. Consider some of these unhealthy activities, and try to avoid them.
Not enough sleep
Sleep is something of a commodity in this fast paced business world. Work, family, and even hobbies can avert us from getting the proper amounts of sleep, or even not getting the proper sleep. Our body and mind need approximately seven to eight hours of sleep a day to function correctly. Most people commonly get about five to six hours on average. Unfortunately, this causes your body and mind to become stressed. When this happens, your body may begin to function poorly and begin storing energy reserves (fat) to accommodate.
The target amount of rest you need to get each night is about seven hours. If you must, begin a schedule in which you can organize your time, enabling you to receive the proper amount of sleep for your body. Proper rest will lead to better performance especially for your work.
Thirsty, but not for water
Water is a magical element, refreshing our body and fulfilling its needs. Water has, get this, zero calories and is filling. Unfortunately, many people drink soda, coffee, and even the dreaded energy drink (be careful about those) throughout the day to keep themselves going. These refreshments can be okay every now and then, but your body needs water to survive. On top of that, water fills you up when youve got the munchies.
Your body needs approximately eight servings (eight ounces each) of water a day to function normally. Prior to eating, drink a couple of glasses of water (about 16 ounces). You may find that you dont eat as much, yet you are full. This is a great technique for helping yourself shed weight in a healthy way, too.
Forgetting breakfast, eat later
Eating is not bad. We need to eat to survive. This is where timing comes in. Many people skip breakfast. Breakfast is possibly the most important meal of the day, providing you with the energy and nutrients you need. You may find yourself pushing back breakfast and eating a large lunch instead. This practice tricks your body into thinking it needs to hold on to its storage longer, resulting in weight-gain.
The trick to eating healthy is eating many small meals throughout the day. Spread them out evenly, and consider a smaller dinner, as you wont be using much energy while you sleep (unless you sleep walk).
Putting off exercising
Ill just run two miles tomorrow. Does that expression sound familiar? Putting exercise off is a no-no, especially when youre trying to get fit. Along with a healthy diet, you also need the proper exercise to go with it. Motivation is important here, as many people have a hard time sticking with a plan unless there is outside support.
Consider partnering up with a friend that also has similar goals. There is also the option of joining a fitness center. Here, many people have the same goal, working together to work out and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
