Computer Horse Race Handicapping or Traditional Handicapping, Which is More Profitable
We live in the digital age and many people wager on horses races and watch them through the internet
. Many people also get their past performances and other handicapping material though the net as well. Some people find it difficult to stare at a screen for hours and therefore, while they access the material through a modem, they print it out and use a traditional program or past performances.
Then there are the other folks who still go to the corner newsstand to buy a form or pick one up for the next day on their way out of the track. Any one of these methods can work depending upon what you do with the information once you have it in your hands. The one drawback that all these methods have is that they are all based on information that is available to anyone.
But which one works better and how can we tell? The answer is that you are the only one who can decide which source of information works best for you, but here are some clues. How tired do you get looking at a computer screen as opposed to looking at a printed page? When you are handicapping, do you often take one page with a horse or horses on it and hold it beside another page so that you can put the past performances of two horses side by side?
If not, I recommend that you do try that. You may be surprised. Handicapping is analysis. In order to analyze, there must be a model or control to compare that which is being analyzed to. For instance, you want to analyze the 3 horse in the race and compare him to the 5, the probable favorite. How do you do it? Handicapping factors are the key. You can write them down in columns, look at the race summary provided by many handicapping material suppliers, or just hold the two up beside each other and look at them.
That is the benefit of having a printed page. The benefit of digital pp's is that you can manipulate the data. You can separate and extract and then re format, but that takes time. Sometimes it is just easier to hold two pages side by side and look at the two horse's running lines. The only way to tell which one works best for you is to try both and see which one has the best effect on your bottom line.
