Computer Performance Optimization - Defragmentation And Virtual Memory Setting

When we talk about computer optimization, we would always talk about registry

, internet optimization. But there is a important issue that we probably neglect. It is disk fragmentation which is has a great impact on disk and PC performance.

Fragmentations are small units of a file content which are stored contiguously in hard disk. They spread out over the volumes of the hard disk. This way of data storing slow down the data access and therefore the system performance.

Especially Partition C, where normally store Windows system files, contains a lot of fragmentations. Because virtual memory, which is normally set to saved in Partition C, can generate a lot of fragmentations. This directly slow down the data access of system disk and system performance. So we can set the virtual memory to other partition. You can follow the steps below:

1) Right click My Computer and select Properties.

2) Click Advanced tap. Go to Performance area and click Setting button.

3) Click Advanced tap. Go to Virtual memory area and click Change button.

4) Click Partition C:. Select No paging file and click Set. Then we cancel the virtual memory from Partition C.

5) Click Partition D:. Select Custom size. And set Initial size as 1.5 times as your RAM, Maximum size as 3.0 times. Click Set.

6) Click OK. Then we successfully remove the virtual memory from system disk to non-system disk.

This way can reduce the impact of fragmentations on system performance. But to eliminate the problems, you need to use a defrag tool to optimize your computer disk regularly.
