Computer Repair, A Costly Expense

If you have a computer, it's almost a guarantee that at one time or another you have needed to have at least one type of computer repair

. Repairing computers can be costly to say the least, and time consuming at best.

Computers can present you with at least a hundred different hardware and software problems on a regular basis. The most common is a keyboard issue, most probably caused by a coffee spill. On a desktop this is simple to fix with a new keyboard. On a laptop, this is indeed a serious and expensive issue.

If you surf the web, look for coupons, order online, or just focus on social networking, chances are you'll end up with a computer virus or at least a few gigs of malware and spyware. Even the most expensive antivirus products on the market and the best malware protectors can't pick up everything. With a virus, everything on your computer could be serious risk.

If you have another computer to use as a backup, that might not be too bad. If you need this computer to have special documents and software, you should find an offsite and online backup source that backs up your computer on its own. Then, if needed, you can download these files to your backup computer while your other one is being serviced.

It's not impossible, however, to find out that you also backed up the virus as well. Just make sure if use this method that the antivirus program on that computer is completely up to date before downloading any backed up files. Programs that allow you to access your computer from another remote computer may not help at all since the remote computer would simply be seeing the exact same thing.

The only drawback here is that a complete backup can take a few hours. It's also possible that during the previous backup from your primary machine, the culprit was uploaded as well. In other words, it's not impossible for the virus to be backed up as well.

However, if a virus isn't your problem, you may need some expensive professional technical help, and it could take a few days to have the problem fixed. Most large electronics retail stores have a special department for that very purpose. You'll need to bring in the computer, however, and if it's a desktop model with a large tower, that could be a real pain.

Once they find the problem it could run into another few hundred dollars if new parts are needed, or additional software and testing systems need to be used to get the computer back to normal.
