Concepts Of A Good Web Design
As the title suggests, a web design is classified as good if it follows certain criteria
. A website with a good content is nothing without a great web design, and it wouldnt pull out much interest from your target audience.
The following are some things to consider when designing a website:
1. Minimalism Websites previously had amazing designs, flash animations, lots of blinking text here and there, and dont forget the scrolling marquees. These things are things of the past, they are not applicable anymore as they tend to pull the users eye into something else than the content. What web designers have come up since the past few years are minimal web designs that focus mainly on a websites content.
2. Search Engine Friendliness Sure, images here and there and flash moving all around the screen looks awesome, but not search engine friendly. Make sure that if you are to make a web design, it will not only look good to the naked eye but will be spider-friendly as well.
3. Color rainbow colors are good, for artists sites; period. There is no other website that needs tons of colors just to relay a good web design. Remember that color greatly affects people on how they read text, so it is much better to make it to a point that the color will not hinder the user from reading the text of your content.
4. Browser Compatibility During the past few years, several browsers have emerged, making web designers choose which browser platform to use for their website designs. It is actually a good idea to make your website design compatible to all browsers as much as possible. CSS support and javascript however is not supported in primitive browsers like internet explorer and old netscape versions. This is an exemption to the rule, especially if scripts are important to your website.
5. Layout There are 3 basic parts of a website; the header, the content area, and the footer. Some people have come up with diverse ideas on how to layout sites, but following the 3 basic parts. Everything should always come in that order no matter what type of website it is.
6. Wireframing Following the concept of website layouts, website designers can make wireframes and divide the basic parts into more complex subgroups. This however, should be done pixel perfect and without any space wasted. Otherwise, uneven spaces will make the site look bad and unprofessional.
7. Web Semantics Of course, your HTML code should conform with web semantic rules. There are tools online that you can use to verify your HTML code for error, for your site to load even faster and to avoid instances where users are experiencing bugs.
Also, a great web design relies not only to the hands of the web designer. To be able to come up with a great concept, it is the clients responsibility to suggest colors, themes, and add a personal feel to their own websites. Well, its their own business anyway.
