Conference Call Services: Deciding Between Conference Calls and Web Conferencing

New technology has led to the creation of a new conference call services option called Web conferencing. This new technology is done over the web and has many businesses either using it or considering using it in place of standard conference call services over the phone. Here, we take a look at some of the differences between the two.

Standard conference calls over a telephone line are a very robust service that has become available to most businesses. What makes it particularly popular now is that it is a tried and true practice that has improved with each year. Over the years, additional features have been added to this service that make it an effective service.

However, telephone conference calls do have their limitations. For example, one of the main limitations is the lack of any visual medium. Some will choose to use video conferencing to help address this issue. However, others decide to go with web conferencing. It allows people the ability to view presentations from their desktop computer and listen into the calls. They have the ability to share all types of documents online and even allow different people to take over the presentation regardless of their location. Participants can also send in questions to the presenter through their text messaging service on many services. These features add up to provide an attractive package to many people.

However, web conferencing also has its warts. Since it is still a relatively new service, the call quality is still not as solid and has a greater risk of having other issues because of using the less stable internet system as its backbone. In addition, this service requires that all participants have access to a computer or at least a pda with internet access. Fortunately, this last one is no longer a significant issue for most companies and their staff.

Over the next few years, it is also reasonable to expect that web conferencing will continue to improve as there is more potential for growth with this technology. Therefore, it is a good idea to know about both conference call services.
